Kenya Pastors to Receive Licenses on Sunday
KITENGALA, KENYA (August 10, 2006) – The first pastors of the eight-year-old Evangelical Covenant Church of Kenya (ECCK) were approved for and received their licenses on Sunday.
The pastors were licensed during the worship service at the Kandara Church. Present at the service was Alberto Zepeda who, along with his wife, Lisa, have served as short-term Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) missionaries since 2004. “When I told the church that their pastor was among five who would be licensed this year, and that of the five he was the first to receive the license to serve the sacraments, they exploded with joy,” Zepeda writes in his Web blog.
Zepeda is on a seven-week visit to Kenya to encourage the church and participate in the National Council’s discussions and interviews about licensing. “It is vital that each national church conduct its own business, including establishing the criteria for granting licenses to those servants specifically called out by God for leadership in the pastoral role,” says Pete Ekstrand, ECC world mission regional coordinator for Africa. “This is now taking place for the ECCK.”
Ekstrand will be present at Mpeketoni on August 20 when licenses will be presented to the other pastors. Ekstrand will arrive in Kenya August 15 and will visit several ECCK churches.
