Shooting Victim Improving Following SurgeryFT. COLLINS, CO (September 1, 2006) - The condition of David Ebner, 28, continues to improve and he is now out of intensive care at Poudre Valley Hospital, according to his father, Wally Ebner.Ebner, also the son of Evangelical Covenant Church pastor Nancy Ebner, was shot in the back around 2 a.m. Monday morning as he was walking. Police could not find Ebner for about 20 minutes because he had sufficient energy to run 100 yards before collapsing, according to news accounts. Doctors told David’s parents that he had come within 10 minutes of dying due to extensive blood loss - he had no blood pressure when he arrived at the hospital, according to his father. The human body contains approximately five liters of blood and doctors used 11 liters in transfusions while saving David’s life. The .45-caliber bullet broke one rib and passed through David’s lung, but did not hit any other organs, the senior Ebner said. David underwent surgery to remove part of his lung on Monday. Police continue to investigate the incident, and no charges have been filed. To read the original account published as part of this online Covenant news report, please see Shooting.
