Vikings Soccer Team Meets Augustana Tuesday Night
CHICAGO, IL (October 30, 2006) – The North Park University men’s soccer team will host Augustana Tuesday night to defend its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) championship.
The match will begin at 7 p.m. at the Holmgren Athletic Complex. The Vikings (6-0-1, 14-1-2) defeated Augustana 2-1 during regular season play.
Viking athletes captured Player of the Week honors four of the eight weeks in the CCIW season this year. The Vikings earned the school’s first NCAA Tournament bid last year.
Despite the Viking talent and the earlier victory over Augustana (4-3-0, 9-8-0), coach John Born says the team is not taking the match for granted. “Augustana is a really good team,” he says, noting the earlier contest was close. “It was a very even game. We were looking at the tape, and they had a lot of chances.”
The winner of the game will take on the winner of the Wheaton and Carthage contest on Saturday. The Vikings have home field advantage throughout the tournament. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the national contest.
