Dr. Timothy Johnson to Appear on National Radio Show

CHICAGO, IL (February 14, 2007) – Dr. G. Timothy Johnson, longtime medical editor for ABC News and an ordained minister of the Evangelical Covenant Church, is the featured guest on the February 18 edition of Grace Matters, the radio ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

The program is broadcast nationally on 175 stations in the United States and others around the world. To hear the broadcast, check local listings. The program also will be available on the ministry’s website following the broadcast.

Johnson will discuss his recent book, Finding God in the Questions: A Personal Journey, and how he views science and religion working together.

“I am absolutely intrigued and captured by both the worlds of the spirit and science,” Johnson tells host Peter W. Marty. “I love them both dearly. I suppose in a way, my whole life has been a minor exercise in trying to reconcile those two worlds.” He adds that spirituality and science are complimentary and not mutually exclusive.

Johnson discusses his struggle with doubt when he entered the seminary, and how he now addresses matters such as intelligent design and evolution in a faith context.

Johnson has spoken at numerous Covenant gatherings. While in college, he worked at Swedish Covenant Hospital as an x-ray and laboratory technician. He graduated from North Park Theological Seminary before pursuing a medical degree.

As medical editor for ABC News, Johnson provides analysis for World News Tonight, Nightline, Good Morning America, and 20/20. Johnson's programs and feature reports have won several awards, including a national Emmy Award and two local Emmys. He also received the 1998 Bradford Washburn Award bestowed by the Museum of Science, Boston, Massachusetts, an honor also conferred upon Jacques Cousteau, Walter Cronkite, and Dr. Jane Goodall.

Johnson serves on the faculty of the Harvard Medical School, and staff of Massachusetts General Hospital. He also serves as assisting minister of the Community Covenant Church in West Peabody, Massachusetts.
