Morning Baptism, Afternoon GroundbreakingSOUTH LYON, MI (April 4, 2007) – Four people went under the baptismal waters and rose again during last Sunday’s worship service at Crossroads Community Covenant Church. The baptisms were the focus of the morning worship, says pastor Joe Muzzi. More than 200 people attended the service, which normally averages 160 in attendance.Later, during the afternoon, shovels of dirt were turned as part of groundbreaking ceremonies for the congregation’s first building. The building is being constructed on farmland the congregation purchased during 2005, the year it joined the Evangelical Covenant Church. “It’s a starter building,” says Muzzi. The cost of the land limited what the church is able to initially construct. He adds, “We’re on a great location in relation to the city.” The building includes a narthex, children’s area, and sanctuary. The church already uses a house and garage on the property for class space and a youth room. A barn also is on the land, but is unusable for ministry purposes. The afternoon celebration included a “bounce” house, Easter egg hunt, and games for the children.National Covenant Properties helped finance the purchase of the land and the new construction.
