Devotional Book Uses Warrior Theme to Reach Boys

MERCER ISLAND, WA (April 10, 2007) – A new 28-day devotional book co-authored by Mercer Island Evangelical Covenant Church Pastor Greg Asimakoupoulos has been released through Focus on the Family.

Tribe: A Warrior’s Calling is geared for teenage boys and is part of Breakaway magazine’s devotional series. The book builds on the warrior motif that was introduced several years ago by author John Eldredge in his books for men, including Wild at Heart.

Book cover“I think it’s an appropriate motif for adolescent boys attempting to live out their faith in a pagan society,” Asimakoupoulos says. “It really is a war out there. Biblical norms and values are victimized right and left. Unless the next generation understands there really is an enemy of the soul running wild through the earth, they will fail to experience what God has for them.”

Each day of the devotional book includes five sections:
    •    Tribal Quest: A Faith-Building Challenge
    •    Tribal Truth: Bible Reading
    •    Tribal Face: A Hard-Hitting Story
    •    Tribal Training: Action Points on Living for God
    •    Tribal Marks: A Journal to Grow in Prayer

Asimakoupoulos has been a contributing writer to Breakaway for 15 years and has also had articles published in The Covenant Companion over the years. He notes the irony that his three children are daughters, saying that his experience in raising girls has enabled him to write some 20 years for BRIO, a magazine for teenage girls. Jeremy Jones, associate editor for Breakaway, co-authored the book.
