World Mission Calls Karen Hallberg to New Position
CHICAGO, IL (April 20, 2007) – An additional key piece in the reorganization plan for the Department of World Mission was announced today in the calling of Evangelical Covenant Church Pastor Karen Hallberg to serve as associate director of the Mission Mobilization and Connection division.
In her new role, Hallberg will work with the director of this mission ministry division, assisting Covenant churches in planning and mobilizing for global mission, as well as connecting churches with mission opportunities with which they can partner by going, giving and praying. She will begin her new duties May 1.
Mission Mobilization and Connection also provides resources and training events that enable Covenanters to engage in mission work more effectively. Covenant Mission Connection and Covenant Merge Ministries will be supported by this division, which also will organize mission awareness trips.
“Karen has a deep commitment to world mission and will bring gifts of teaching, communication, administration and networking to the department,” says Curt Peterson, executive minister of Covenant World Missions. “She has demonstrated gifts of leadership and has been very effective in personal mentoring and discipleship. Karen’s diverse experience in ministry and strong communication and organization skills will bring strength and depth to the work of Mission Mobilization and Connection. We are fortunate and excited about having Karen join our team.”
An ordained Covenant pastor, Hallberg served the past eight years on the faculty and as director of outreach for Covenant Bible College - Colorado. Part of her responsibilities included leading cross-cultural mission trips and teaching courses in world mission. Prior to working with the college, Karen served as youth pastor at Glen Ellyn (Illinois) Covenant Church for eight years.
Sally Carlson will continue to serve in this division with primary responsibilities related to Covenant Mission Connection and Covenant Merge Ministries. The selection of the director for Mission Mobilization and Connection is in process.
