Congregation Experiences Worship in New Way

REDMOND, WA (May 1, 2007) – The congregation at Creekside Covenant Church recently experienced Sunday morning worship in an entirely new dimension when they moved outside the four walls of their sanctuary to embrace and serve other members of their community.

“It’s a way of helping people to understand that service is a part of worship,” says Lynn Fleshman, director of Bridge-Building Ministries at the church. “It’s not just standing in the church and singing or listening to a sermon.”

CreeksideThe church had organized projects that primarily helped people outside the congregation. They included handiwork and yard projects, singing at a nursing home, and cleaning desks in the classrooms at Redmond Junior High School, where the congregation meets. Some congregation members also distributed May Day baskets that contained flowers throughout a local trailer park.

“The projects turned out really well,” Fleshman says. “It was really a good day.” Church members already are looking forward to the next opportunity, she added.

This is not the first time the church has restructured its worship to incorporate compassion and outreach initiatives. Last year, the congregation put together World Vision caregiver kits.

For more information, contact Fleshman by telephone at 425-376-1111 or by email at Lynn Fleshman.
