University Seeks External Relations DirectorCHICAGO, IL (May 23, 2007) – Applications are being accepted by North Park University for a position as director of external relations. This positions reports to the senior vice president.The position is responsible for marketing, public information, publications, and coordinating institutional advertising. It also assists with events and projects to support strategic initiatives and provides public relations counsel to the president and other senior administrators. Key responsibilities include institutional marketing, advertising, media relations, web design, events, and publications directed to a variety of audiences. It also initiates marketing and communications strategies, oversees editorial content of materials and provides creative, design, and print services to meet institutional standards of excellence. The position provides leadership for the active and assertive promotion of North Park through the coordination of press releases, submission of articles and news pieces to relevant media sources, and the management of media coverage for strategic campus events. It also provides direction and assistance for all institutional events, such as commencement, lectures, symposiums, and dinners, and oversees the Office of External Relations staff and systems. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a related field and experience managing public relations and publications, thorough knowledge and expertise in media relations, advertising, event planning, writing and design, as well as experience in an academic setting, excellent grammar and strong editing and proofreading skills, strong writing skills, an orientation to detail and accuracy, effective interpersonal skills, computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and a personal commitment to North Park’s mission of Christian higher education. A master’s degree in a related field is desired, as is familiarity with The Evangelical Covenant Church and the evangelical culture.
