Rolling Hills to Build Houses on Their Parking Lot
ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, CA (May 25, 2007) - Rolling Hills Covenant Church (RHCC) will build four pre-fabricated homes on its parking lot on June 8-9, as part of a project to assist homeless families living near Ensenada, Mexico. Once constructed, a team of volunteers will transport the houses to Mexico and assemble them during the weekend of June 22-24.
 Volunteers experienced at working with saws are welcomed to help on June 8. Framing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 9. During the framing session, no construction experience is needed, but volunteers are asked to bring their own hammers. Children are welcomed to participate.
The homes are being built in partnership with Hands of Mercy. That group works with local pastors in Mexico who identify needy families to receive the homes. The loft houses are 12 by 12 feet and provide a dry shelter from the wind and cold weather, a clean floor, and a roof that doesn't leak. They are a major improvement over the makeshift shelters that families otherwise construct from wood pallets and tarps.
Hands of Mercy has worked with churches throughout the United States to provide nearly 400 homes outside of Ensenada for homeless families and has also built a camp—Rancho Casitas.
