Five Covenant Leaders to Address National Conferences


CHICAGO, IL (July 26, 2007) – Evangelical Covenant Church clergy and laity will be among the primary speakers at upcoming major national conferences.  

Speaking at the National Pastors Convention next February will be Efrem Smith, Brenda Salter-McNeil, Scot McKnight, and Bob Stromberg. Craig Groeschel will be a general session speaker at the National Outreach Convention in November.

Smith is pastor of The Sanctuary Covenant Church and board chair of The Sanctuary Community Development Corporation in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He also hosts the radio program, Time for Reconciliation, and is author of the books Raising-Up Young Heroes and The Hip-Hop Church.

Salter McNeil currently is in the denomination’s ordination process and has worked extensively with the Covenant on issues related to racial reconciliation. She founded Salter McNeil & Associates, a racial and ethnic reconciliation training, consulting, and leadership development firm. McNeil is also the coauthor of the book The Heart of Racial Justice: How Soul Change Leads to Social Change.

McKnight is the Karl A. Olsson Professor in Religious Studies at North Park University. He is the author of more than 20 books, including the award-winning The Jesus Creed: Loving God, Loving Others, Embracing Grace, and The Real Mary. McKnight’s award-winning blog, Jesus Creed, has been rated by Technorati.com as the number one site for the Emerging Church.

Stromberg is well-known in the denomination as a comedian, author, songwriter, and co-author of the acclaimed play Triple Espresso. He also is the author of Finding the Magnificent in Lower Mundane, The Miracle at Stinky Bay, and Why Geese Fly Farther than Eagles.

Groeschel is pastor of LifeChurch.tv, which Outreach magazine has named one of the most innovative churches in America. He is the author of several books, including Confessions of a Pastor: Adventures in Dropping the Pose and Getting Real with God. His new book, Going all the way: Preparing for a Marriage that Goes the Distance, is scheduled to be released in October.
