Funeral Services Set for Sandberg

FOREST LAKE, MN (August 16, 2007) – Funeral services for Verna Sandberg, 85, will be held at 11a.m. Saturday at Crossroads Covenant Church. She died Tuesday. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Mattson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

While a short-term missionary at Karawa, Congo, in the 1980s, Sandberg coordinated home-schooling for the Ubangi Academy, where the children of missionaries were educated and many of them boarded.

She developed a plan that allowed missionaries who kept their children at home to keep pace with the curriculum at the school. “As a result, when children came to the academy, they were well-prepared and able to work alongside their peers at the same level,” says former missionary Eileen Thorpe. “This was a very valuable service to parents, teachers, and children alike.”

Sandberg was born July 1, 1922, in Minneapolis. She married Maynerd Sandberg on August 1, 1946. He survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Vermae Matheson and Deborah Dahlberg; and son, Daniel Sandberg.

Memorials may be directed to Advanced Leadership Training Center in New Dehli, India. For more information, contact the funeral home by calling 651-464-3556.
