New Devotional Guide for Victims of AbuseCHICAGO, IL (September 10, 2007) – A newly published book of prayers and meditations for women is now available, produced as part of the AVA (Aid to Victims of Abuse) initiative supported by Women Ministries of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Edited by Aleese Moore-Orbih, You Are Not Alone offers words of hope and encouragement to victims of abuse. The small book is uniquely designed to be easily concealed in a woman’s purse or pocket, or even inside a standard checkbook or calendar cover. The content, developed by a number of Covenant clergy, addresses scriptures that are most commonly misunderstood by victims of abuse, or even misused by the church. “These ministers have lifted the themes of love, healing, and liberation from the texts that have often been misused and made a hindrance rather than a help to victims/survivors,” writes Moore-Orbih, AVA project manager who developed the vision for the book. “With hope of the anointing and presence of the Holy Spirit, they offer . . . the Good News of Jesus Christ.” The first of AVA's three goals is to provide resources to bring healing for victims of abuse, says Ruth Hill, executive minister of Women Ministries. "That healing can only begin when they have answers to the theological questions that confuse and even hurt them,” she observes. “These devotionals address their most common questions: Am I being punished for some sin? Must I submit to beatings? What may have been roadblocks to their healing can now become resources." To purchase a copy of the devotional, visit the online Covenant Bookstore.
