Kids Raise $580 to Purchase Sudanese Bibles, Sandals
EAST BRIDGEWATER, MA (September 11, 2007) – Community Covenant Church became Avalanche Ranch Vacation Bible School (VBS) during the second week of August this summer.
 Children from neighborhoods surrounding the church, ages pre-kindergarten through grade six, participated in horseplay games, wild Bible adventures, “Chuck Wagon Chow,” and “Cow Poke” crafts.
"Bibles and Sandals for Sudan" was the week’s theme - 41 children involved in the summer Bible school event raised $580 to purchase Sudanese Bibles and sandals for children in war-torn Sudan.
"This mission project was a great way to encourage youth in our community to consider and help children living in poverty around the world,” says Ruth Carrigan, VBS director. “Our volunteers were touched by the generosity of these children and were amazed as they counted and rolled over 35 pounds of coins!"
"Everyone involved was so excited to see God at work in such a tangible way - the raising of the money for Sudan and the sharing of the resources between the various churches," says pastor Don Olson, who also paid tribute to what he describes as the ecumenical spirit of the churches in the region. “Several churches in southeastern Massachusetts chose "Avalanche Ranch" for their vacation bible school curriculum this summer.”
Several Catholic churches in the region and an Assembly of God church coordinated efforts and shared supplies so that a truckload of materials for Avalanche Ranch was shared among the churches.
