Clyde (KS) Congregation Marks 125 Years of Ministry

CLYDE, KS (September 19, 2007) – Visitors came to this small town from across the nation to help Brantford Evangelical Covenant Church celebrate its 125th anniversary earlier this month.

Two hundred people attended a banquet and sharing service on September 1. Three former pastors spoke at the service: John Wilkens of Oak Harbor, Washington; John Haag of White Marsh, Maryland; and Carold Anderson of Golden Valley, Minnesota. Other participants included former members who have served in ministry elsewhere.

Ken Carlson, superintendent of the Midwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church, was the keynote speaker the next day during the Sunday morning worship service. David Littrell, orchestra director from Kansas State University, played cello, with the anniversary choir overflowing the choir loft as they sang “Jesus is the Rock.” The children’s Sunday school classes sang the first verse of “Children of the Heavenly Father” in Swedish.

During the service, the Brantford congregation surprised pastor Russ Sizemore with a plaque for his 25 years in ministry. He also was presented with a scrapbook of letters, cards, and other greetings from the churches he has served.
