Bread for the World Offers ‘Hunger Justice Leader’ Training

CHICAGO, IL (February 15, 2008) – President Glenn Palmberg says he hopes members of the Evangelical Covenant Church will apply to participate in a Bread for the World (BFTW) training event for people interested in what the organization is calling Hunger Justice Leaders.

The training will take place June 14-17 in Washington, D.C. and is available to people between the ages of 18 and 35. All expenses will be paid by BFTW. Participants must commit to heading advocacy efforts against hunger in their own communities and campuses in partnership with the organization.

“The Covenant church has been significantly involved with Bread for the World for more than a dozen years, and I encourage our members to consider submitting applications to become Hunger Justice Leaders with our longtime partner in sharing the gospel,” Palmberg says. “Bread for the World is truly a bi-partisan effort to address the issues of poverty through legislative action, and together we can make an enormous difference in addressing the causes of hunger.”

Adam Phillips, pastor of Resurrection Covenant Church and member of the planning committee, says the weekend offers fresh opportunities for participants. “This will be a great experience for young leaders who want to be more intentional in living out their faith by addressing issues of social justice and compassion while using their leaderships gifts.”

He and other Covenanters have interned in the organization’s national offices. “Bread is one of the better groups in helping to form public leaders,” Phillips says.

Applications for the “highly-competitive” process can be found online at Hunger Justice Leaders and must be submitted by March 15.
