Decision on Alaska Accreditation Due Friday

SOLDOTNA, AK (February 19, 2008) – Officials of Alaska Christian College (ACC) on Wednesday will make their final presentation to the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) to affirm why they should become a candidate for accreditation by the organization.

“This is the ‘probationary’ test to see if we should receive full accreditation in three or four years from now after more scrutiny,” says Keith Hamilton, the college’s president.

A lot is at stake. If the ABHE approves the accreditation, students can begin to receive state and federal aid, which is not available to them now, Hamilton says. Students also will be able to transfer their credits to another college.

The school began in September 2001, and has been working for four years to receive accreditation. The ABHE, which is holding its annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, is scheduled to announce its decision Friday, Hamilton says.
