Two Covenant Books Headed for Prison LibrariesCHICAGO, IL (February 26, 2008) – An international ministry has selected two books published by the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) for placement in 1,000 prison libraries. Christian Library International is partnering with Christians for Biblical Equality (CBE) to deliver All God’s People and Called and Gifted to prison libraries. All God’s People was written by John Phelan, president and dean of North Park Theological Seminary. Called and Gifted was authored by Sharon Cairns Mann, chair of the ECC Commission on Gender and Biblical Equality. “These books will minister to men and women at a point when they are searching for answers, providing them the good news of God and the dignity that God extends to women,” states the CBE website. “These two books promote a biblically based understanding of our identity in Christ and seek to free men and women of false beliefs that steal or vitiate their true identity,” Cairns Mann says in explaining the purpose of the distribution. “For those who have already lost so much, the content of these books holds the promise of setting them free, spiritually and emotionally, to serve others and to serve the living God.” To learn more about the initiative and ways in which individuals can become involved, visit the CBE website, which has a downloadable form for those desiring to contribute to the effort to raise $5,980 to purchase the books, which are being discounted. All God’s People, along with an accompanying study guide, is available for purchase online at Covenant Bookstore. The study guide is free to churches. Called and Gifted is free and also available at the online Covenant Bookstore - separate study guides for students and leaders may be purchased. |
