Brief Look at Covenanters Making News
SEATTLE, WA (May 16, 2008) – Seattle Pacific University recently named Caenisha Warren, a member of Quest Covenant Church, as its Non-Exempt Staff Member of the Year. Warren is an administrative assistant in the school’s John Perkins Center.
 Her interest in justice and reconciliation ministries has led her to serve on several ministries of the Northwest Pacific Conference (NPC) of the Evangelical Covenant Church. She is a member of the NPC Cross Cultural Ministry and Mission Commission, served on the steering committee for Journey to Mosaic-North Pacific, and is on the Feet To Faith planning team.
Warren was unable to attend the school’s awards ceremony - she was attending a conference in Chicago on the topic of reconciliation.
North Park Senior Wins Academic Honors
CHICAGO, IL - North Park University baseball senior Brady Josephson earned Academic All-District 5 honors for the 2008 season. He was awarded Second Team honors by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Josephson, the son of Neil and Sharol Josephson, is from Strathmore, Alberta, where he attended Hope Community Covenant Church. He had an undergraduate grade point average of 3.82. Currently pursuing his MBA, he earned a graduate GPA of 3.95.
Josephson was fifth on the Vikings in batting with a .369 average. He connected for 38 hits, including five doubles, a triple and one home run. He was named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week in March.
Nominees must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials. They also must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergraduate and graduate work.
Storm Forces Bicyclists to Pay Surprise Visit
LINDSBORG, KS - Bicyclists raising money on a cross-country ride for a global health organization made an unexpected  stop at the Lindsborg Covenant Church in Lindsborg, Kansas, when a thunderstorm forced the rain-drenched team to seek shelter. One of the riders blogged, “. . . talk to me earlier today and i would have cursed kansas again; however, after finishing the ride, i must say that kansas is improving.”
That change in heart developed, in part, due to the kindness of the church members. “(We) were treated very well by people we didn't know at the Covenant church,” he wrote. “The people at lindsborg covenant church let us warm up, dry up and fed us hot cocoa and coffee.”
The experience was one of the events that led the rider to comment, “i want to say that today was one of those days you remember because it was looking so horrible to start and turned into a beautiful ride.”
Omaha Organist Releases New Swedish Hymn Arrangements
OMAHA, NE - Beckenhorst Press has published new arrangements of Swedish hymn tunes commissioned by Dirk Lind, organist and member of First Covenant Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Thanks to God! (Tack O Gud!), arranged by John Carter, includes 12 piano solos, based on Swedish hymn tunes, appropriate for church use or personal enjoyment.
Hymns include “Children of the Heavenly Father,” “How Great the Joy,” and “Thanks to God for My Redeemer.”
