Special Service to Mark End of 110-Year-Old Ministry

DENVER, CO (May 29, 2008) – Members of New Beginnings Community Church of Denver (formerly First Covenant) have voted to close the church after 110 years of ministry.

A special “Service of Remembrance and Joy” will be conducted at 4 p.m. on June 15, says Rick Mylander, associate superintendent of the Midwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Members of other Front Range churches are encouraged to attend.

“In light of the fact that the church has chosen to become a Living Legacy, this is really a service in witness to the resurrection,” Mylander says. Living Legacy churches are congregations that close and sell their property to fund future church planting initiatives.

“The writer of Ecclesiastes reminds us, ‘There is a time to be born, and a time to die,’ ” Mylander says. “These are not idle words, but words of great wisdom. In this death, however, there are seeds of new life.”

Formed in 1898, the church already has given new life to other congregations. It is considered the “mother church” and grandparent of all Covenant churches in the area, Mylander says.

For more information, call Mylander at 303-663-8055 or email him at mwcrick@qwest.net.
