Two Enabling Residence Celebrations Set in June

LINO LAKES, MN (May 29, 2008) – Groundbreaking and anniversary services for Covenant Enabling Residences in the Northwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church will be held on separate weekends in June.

A celebration for Friendship Place will take place at 2 p.m. this Sunday at Rice Creek Covenant Church, where it will be built. The $1 million residence will be the third in the conference. Our Place and North Place are in Duluth.

Crews have been clearing trees and draining swamp to prepare for construction, says Mark Stromberg, conference associate superintendent. A garden is being planted to absorb rainwater runoff.

Like the other residences, the new one-level pair of duplexes will accommodate eight people, Stromberg says. Four of the residents will be able to do limited work in the community, and the other four will require full-time care.

A 10-year anniversary open house and barbecue will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m. June 22 at Our Place. All eight residents have been at the home since it opened, says
Shirley Letica, program manager. North Place opened in 2003.

The residences are known for the bond that exists between the staff and the residents. “They all become part of your family,” Letica says.

National Covenant Properties is helping to finance the project.
