Covenanter to Represent Pirates at All-Star GamePITTSBURGH, PA (July 7, 2008) – Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Nate McLouth, who grew up in the Evangelical Covenant Church in Whitehall, Michigan, will represent his team in the upcoming 79th Major League Baseball All-Star Game, it was announced Sunday. McLouth is one of eight position players elected to the National League squad through the players' vote. His teammates had lobbied for the 26-year-old to make the roster."That's special because it's your peers," McLouth told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. McLouth is batting .280 and entered Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers with a .513 slugging percentage, the fourth best among major league outfielders. He leads his team with 56 RBIs – near the top in the majors - and leads the National League with 29 doubles. In an interview to be published later this week by Covenant News Service, McLouth shares how his faith has continued to keep him focused during his tenure in the majors and inspires his work ethic, which is known around the league. “I owe it to everyone else who hasn’t been blessed to do what I do,” McLouth says.
