Covenant Churches Report No Damage from Storm

MCALLEN, TX (July 23, 2008) – Hurricane Dolly has not inflicted any damage to Evangelical Covenant churches in Texas and Mexico, where the storm has been passing through, according to reports received by Covenant News Service.

“Everybody is fine right now,” says Casimiro Rodgriquez, pastor of Iglesia del Pacto Evangelico La Trinidad in McAllen. “There’s been some rain, nothing much.”

Hurricane Dolly strengthened to a category two storm with 100 mile-per-hour winds. Several Covenant churches are located in the McAllen area, which is roughly 60 miles inland from Brownsville, where the eye of the hurricane is expected to strike this afternoon. Merge Ministries also is located in the area.

Other churches in the area include Iglesia Evangelica Misionera in La Villa, which is roughly 45 miles from Brownsville.

Covenant News Service will update this report as more information becomes available.
