Thorpe Reflections on Pausch Widely Read

CHICAGO, IL (July 31, 2008) – Monday’s story on Chuck Thorpe’s reflections on the life of Randy Pausch struck a responsive chord among Internet readers extending well beyond the Evangelical Covenant Church reading family.

Pausch, a fellow graduate student of Thorpe’s in the computer science department at Carnegie Mellon University, became famous after giving “The Last Lecture” speech on September 18, 2007. The speech, which he gave when it became clear he was dying of pancreatic cancer, became a YouTube sensation and has been seen by more than 3.5 million people. He died Friday.

The Tubeinator website, which measures the popularity of various videos posted on the Internet, showed the Covenant News Service story written by Stan Friedman as second on a list of 974 online news articles related to Pausch’s death and The Last Lecture video, just ahead of similar online news coverage by BusinessWeek and USA Today. To see the listing, visit Tubeinator (given the immediacy of the Internet, rankings change frequently).
