Tug of War Comes to a Sweet Ending

WILLMAR, MN (August 26, 2008) – The losers in the Chocolate Syrup Tug-O-War may have thought they landed in heaven.

Several dozen kids rolled around and splashed in chocolate syrup during the community outreach event held by First Covenant Church, says children’s pastor Cheryl Perry (pictured right in chocolate bath).

Volunteers hosed down the joyful students afterward, but a total cleaning was impossible. One mom asked, “How am I going to get them home?” recalls Perry.

During the evening, the kids also made a craft, ate s’mores and studied Joshua 1:9: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

“Children learned that just as you cannot do a tug-o-war by yourself, you should not try to do life by yourself, either,” Perry says. “We need Jesus on our team as well as other Christians to help us when times get tough.”

Of course, it’s easier to get others to help when chocolate is involved.
