Opportunities to Learn
Tsunami Recovery Letters of gratitude have come to Covenant World Relief almost monthly
from the persons in villages on the shores of India and Sri Lanka, as
well as from Indonesia and Thailand. They want to donors to know the
deep appreciation they feel for being ‘remembered’ and cared for in the
midst of their devastation. You would find it interesting to note that
in several areas church attendance has doubles in response to the love
shown and shared through ‘the Church.’ The love of neighbor has changed
their ‘fate,’ and they would seek to understand God in Christ who
prompts such intervention.
| “We, the under-mentioned recipients, are most grateful for your
generosity in providing us with permanent housing after we lost our
homes…our heartfelt thanks for the much needed furniture, since we had
lost all of our possessions. You have helped us begin out life afresh.
We continue to pray that the Lord will bless you all and that the Holy
Spirit will guide you so you can carry on this good work in the future.
May God bless you all.” |
| "God has graced our lives thorough your blessed kindness.” |
It has been almost two years since the tragic earthquake and resulting tsunami of December 26, 2004. The post traumatic stress, grief, and total disruption of so many lives and communities is a mournful reality. Covenant World Relief has been very involved with the over one million of donated dollars. First was immediate disaster relief, primarily in Sri Lanka, India, and Indonesia; since, it has been the huge task of sustaining and rebuilding. Your dollars have developed temporary and permanent housing in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and India. Covenant World Relief has redeveloped fishing boats and nets in these same countries and in Thailand, as well as hoofed animal husbandry to offer an alternative to those who wouldn’t return to the sea. Covenant World Relief has partnered for twenty-six wells in the Andaman Islands of India. In Sri Lanka, your Covenant World Relief dollar continues to sustain food and school fees to many children orphaned by the tsunami. Here Covenant World Relief has also participated in furniture replacement, housing, building materials and transport. We have served in conjunction with seven different Christian ministry partners in these tsunami recovery efforts. Over $820,000 has been distributed and the remaining $171,000 will be distributed in the fall of 2006 and throughout 2007.
Thank you for your participation in this ministry!
