Online Giving Transaction Costs

The Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) and its related ministries offer online giving as a vehicle to enable financial partnerships with the shared mission and ministry of the church. The ECC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Gifts to the ECC are tax deductible as charitable contributions. The ECC’s fiscal year runs February 1 through January 31.

For each gift you make, you will receive a donor receipt for your tax records. For online gifts, your receipt will be in the form of an email that arrives moments after your gift has been given.

In an effort to keep donors informed of the giving options available to them, below we have outlined the transaction costs associated with the various forms of online payment. The ECC encourages responsible giving that does not create debt for the giver. Online checks generally minimize transaction costs.

Online Gifts

If you make a gift and pay with…

• an online check (ACH), then the cost is $2
• a PayPal account, then the cost is $1.55 + 2.2%
• a credit/debit card, then the cost is $1.51 + 2.598%

Note that the costs will vary depending on the gift amount. As an example, a $100 online gift has the following costs:

• $2 if given with an online check (ACH)
• $3.75 if given with a PayPal account
• $4.11 if given with a credit/debit card

Online Check | For most gifts, an online check is easy for you and cost effective for us. ACH is a direct transfer from your checking or savings account. All you need is a check for determining the routing code and account number. An online check is the most cost effective online option for gifts over $20.

PayPal | PayPal is an e-commerce business which allows payments and money transfers to be made through the Internet. Accounts are free and require linking to a funding source, such as a bank account, credit card, or debit card. Giving from your PayPal account is quick and easy for you because it only requires your PayPal email and password.

Credit/Debit Card | Giving via a credit/debit card is easy and efficient, and probably the most familiar online giving option for you. All you need is the information on the card. A credit/debit card is most cost effective online option for gifts under $18.

Offline Giving

There are no additional transaction costs for making an offline gift. Offline gifts may be made in either of the following ways:

1. Mail a check to 8303 W Higgins Road, Chicago, Illinois, 60631; or
2. Mail a voided check and the completed Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) Form to 8303 W Higgins Road, Chicago, Illinois, 60631.
