Formation Forum 2008 Loop Trips
This year Formation Forum participants have the option of going on a fully-planned tour of the Chicago Loop. Groups will have a guide familiar with the city to help show them around. Note: For further information about these trips, please see "Essential Information" at the bottom of this page. Note: The trip to Navy Pier has been cancelled due to lack of interest. Trip 1: Millennium Park | Come and enjoy outdoor ice skating on the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink in Millennium Park. Entrance to the rink is free and skate rentals are available for $9. Coffee shops are available across the road for those who only wish to ice skate for a short while or who would rather sit and people-watch.
Participants who attend this outing will be eating at Pizano’s Pizza and Pasta. Pizano’s was opened by the son of Rudy Malnati, Sr, purportedly the inventor of Chicago-style pizza.
| Trip 2: Water Tower Place | For those of you who have never experience an 8-level mall, Water Tower Place may be the trip for you. Browse the over 100 stores inside the mall, or venture outside to see the northern end of the Magnificent Mile. Outside you will find shops such as the Hershey store as well as horse-drawn carriage rides and the old Chicago Water Tower. Next door to Water Tower Place is the Hancock building; there you can pay to go up to the observatory or go up for free to the Signature Lounge where you can partake in a $4 soda. The trip might just be worth it, however, as the best view in the entire city is in the Women’s restroom.
Those who take the trip to Water Tower Place will have a wide variety of food choices at FoodLife in the mezzanine of Water Tower place. Foodlife features 13 separate kitchens, ranging from pasta, to Mexican, to stir-fry, to hamburgers.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION:
If you sign up for one of these trips, when you check in you will need to pay $5 (tentative – may be more if Chicago transportation fees increase). We will be riding the El - Chicago’s mostly above-ground subway - to all of our events (Water Tower Place participants will be riding both the El and a bus). This $5 will provide you with a 1-day Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) pass, which will allow you unlimited rides on Chicago El trains and buses for 24 hours. We will hand out the 1-day passes when we are leaving for the events.
Please meet for all events in the John Wayne Room at 4:30. We will leave at 4:45 SHARP. There will be some walking involved in all of the events (including a short walk to and from the El stop and the hotel), so please dress warmly, particularly those of you who are planning on ice skating, or wish to venture outside on one of the other trips. You will be asked to provide your group leader with your cell
phone number in case of emergency or separation. You will
also be given the cell phone number of your group leader.
Cost varies by trip and is the responsibility of the attendee. |
