Feeding Kids SSFP (Simplified Summer Food Program)

Columbia Grove Covenant Church (East Wenatchee, Washington) will be out in the community this summer with a focus on children and as a proud 2012 sponsor of The Simplified Summer Food Program in Washington State: “Food That’s In When School Is Out” (a program of the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction of Washington State). Columbia Grove will provide a nutritious lunch and a fun activity in two locations Monday through Thursday during the summer for children 1-18 free of charge.

What is It?
The Simplified Summer Food Program (SSFP) is one of the Child Nutrition Programs funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). In Washington State, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) Child Nutrition Services (CNS) administers the program. The SSFP provides reimbursement for nutritious meals served to children in lower income areas at no cost when school is out.

Children who aren’t hungry learn better, act better, and feel better. The summer feeding program help children get the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow throughout the summer months when they are out of school.

The Plan:
We’ll be hosting a nutritious lunch Monday through Thursday during the summer for children 1-18 free of charge. We’ll be at two strategic locations: Rock Island Park and Lee Elementary School.

While lunch is being served an activity will be provided. A mini VBS each day!
