MobilePack

Hilmar Covenant Church mobilized community volunteers to participate in MobilePack, a food-packing event to benefit Feed My Starving Children (FMSC). Bags of food were packed for hungry kids around the world. The local community also benefited from the experience, because their awareness of the issue of global hunger was raised and they realized how they can make a difference in the wider world. They also experienced their community in a new, richer way through doing this activity together. MobilePack also highlighted the denomination’s commitment to compassion, mercy, and justice. Cycles 4 Hope

Shawn Holiday founded Cycles 4 Hope after seeing how a bicycle could help the homeless get themselves to shelter, food, medical appointments, and jobs – and bring hope and joy. Cycles 4 Hope is funded through donations and many volunteers who help clean, repair, and prepare the bikes. Continue Reading »

The Story (Zondervan Publishing)

Prairieview Covenant, New Richmond, WI participated in The Story (published by Zondervan) over the school year of 2011-2012.

The Story goes through the whole Bible chronologically in 31 weeks, using the NIV translation and organizing the major themes and stories into chapters. We have used The Story for preschool, early elementary, later elementary, teen, and adult books. The book for each age has NIV scripture and some connecting paragraphs of explanation. It helps us to see God’s “Upper Story,” which is God’s overall plan from creation to Revelation, as well as God’s “Lower Story,” which is all the people he used to carry out his plan. Prayer Trail

Cedarbrook Church in Menomonie, WI recently completed a prayer trail that crosses a ridge on church-owned property behind the church facilities. The idea originated 10 years ago before Cedarbrook began meeting. A small group had been meeting with Pastor Remy Diederich, studying different ways that people can connect with God. The idea of connecting with God through nature dominated the conversations. Amazingly, 10 years later they have a church building, spare land and a prayer trail. Continue Reading »

“Remember” – Prison Ministry

“Remember,” based on Hebrews 3:13, is the prison ministry at Hope Community Church in Detroit, MI. Our goal is to mentor, write letters, visit, and assist ex-offenders and persons on parole or probation with reentry into the community. We meet and visit some of our clients in prison; others are referred to us by family or friends of Hope. Our aftercare program deals with assisting ex-offenders with re-entry into the community. We welcome volunteers as well as donations to assist us in the ministry. Continue Reading »

“Underground River”

“Underground River” is our weekly prayer gathering at McMinnville Covenant Church. We meet on Tuesdays from 12-12:45 pm. The name of our gathering reflects its more contemplative nature. “Underground River” is a metaphor we use for prayer, acknowledging that our prayers (particularly in the evangelical tradition) often can contain a lot of words but don’t always genuinely reflect what’s going on deeper within. Underground River expresses the desire to connect our deeper desires with God’s Living Water, which flows deep within all of us like a River. Continue Reading »

The Door Is Open

For those of you who have traveled broadly, you may have discovered churches that are open each day for silent prayer and meditation. This was also true for the church down through the ages. The sanctuary was a place away from the bustle and noise of home and market – and a time to simply “be” with God. Continue Reading »

Hope Covenant Discipleship

The download below is a tool we developed, using the Children’s Ministry Planning Tool, by Steve Burger (Department of Christian Formation, ECC) as a guide. Each age level is considered within the G.R.O.W. (God’s Word, Relationships, Obedient Living, Worship) framework and the context of discipleship. We hope it will be helpful for others, as you plan. Stations of the Cross – Winnetka Covenant Church

The Stations of the Cross experience at Winnetka Covenant Church was two years in the making. The idea was brought to the church’s Clergy and Worship Resource Committee, all of whom gave their enthusiastic support. Our team was excited about this idea but wanted to make sure we gave enough thought about how best to implement this project to encompass all its aspects and allow artists enough time to create their work.
