MobilePack
Hilmar Covenant Church mobilized community volunteers to participate in MobilePack, a food-packing event to benefit Feed My Starving Children (FMSC). Bags of food were packed for hungry kids around the world. The local community also benefited from the experience, because their awareness of the issue of global hunger was raised and they realized how they can make a difference in the wider world. They also experienced their community in a new, richer way through doing this activity together. MobilePack also highlighted the denomination’s commitment to compassion, mercy, and justice. Prayer Trail
Cedarbrook Church in Menomonie, WI recently completed a prayer trail that crosses a ridge on church-owned property behind the church facilities. The idea originated 10 years ago before Cedarbrook began meeting. A small group had been meeting with Pastor Remy Diederich, studying different ways that people can connect with God. The idea of connecting with God through nature dominated the conversations. Amazingly, 10 years later they have a church building, spare land and a prayer trail. Continue Reading »

Merge: Intergenerational Prayer
At Sanctuary Covenant Church (Minneapolis, Minnesota), we are trying to incorporate ways for families and all ages to interact, pray, worship, and build community together. This idea came out of a desire to have a time for our children to be involved in our prayer ministry on Wednesday nights. It started as a central time to pray for our kids and the kids and schools in our city. This idea morphed and changed into a desire to bring our community together across ages to pray together in creative ways. We want to build a culture of prayer at our church, a space where all can pray together, and learn from the various styles of prayer. Continue Reading »

Communion – Children
Intergenerational Communion Service Our church had an intergenerational worship service which focused on the Last Supper and teaching children (and adults) about communion. It seemed to be very well received here, so I thought I would pass it on as a possible resource for other churches. Attached is a worship order with detailed notes and a leader’s guide. Good Friday Tenebrae: The Seven Deadly Sins
The seven candles that are extinguished in the Good Friday Tenebrae service can be fittingly paired to the seven deadly sins. Included in this service are calls to prayer, congregational prayers, and words of pardon for each of the seven deadly sins. Continue Reading »
Tenebrae Service – Jesus’ Last Week
We had done a Tenebrae service for a number of years and were looking for a way to breathe some newness into it, so instead of walking through the sayings of Jesus on the cross and extinguishing a candle after each one, we decided to incorporate some scenes from the last week of the life of Jesus and then in the same manner, extinguish a candle and have the room grow progressively darker.
