Memorial Service Planned for Roy Sveiven


SANTA BARBARA, CA (March 14, 2006) - A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, March 25, for retired Evangelical Covenant Church Pastor Roy Sveiven, 93, who died Tuesday, March 7.

The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Samarkand Covenant Village in Santa Barbara where he had been residing with his wife, Lyla, who survives him. Rev. Robert M. Kronberg will officiate at the service.

Sveiven was born in Sacred Heart, Minnesota. He attended Oster Mission Covenant Church in Waverly, Minnesota. He was first licensed in 1935 and was ordained after graduating from North Park Theological Seminary.

Sveiven served a number of Covenant churches from 1934 until his retirement in 1977. He served five Covenant churches in Minnesota: Mission Covenant in Cannon Falls, Buffalo Lake Covenant in Murdock, Svea Hill Covenant in Elk River, Oster Covenant in Waverly, and Lakeview in Duluth. Sveiven also pastored Squaw Peak Covenant in Phoenix, Arizona.

He served three home missions churches: Countryside Covenant in Glenview, Illinois; Mission Covenant in Edmonton, Alberta; and Kerman Covenant in Kerman, California. Sveiven also served several non-Covenant congregations.

Sveiven served as manager of Covenant Harbor Bible Camp in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, from 1954-1957.
