Overview

Covenant Orientation allows for the inclusion of many who would otherwise be unable to receive Covenant ministry credentials.  In the past, orientation to ministry in the Evangelical Covenant Church was only available through the year-long residential orientation program at North Park Theological Seminary.  The Board of the Ordered Ministry recognized that some persons are called to serve within the Covenant but are unable to move to Chicago to attend North Park Theological Seminary. Covenant Orientation was designed to provide a way for these people to fulfill the orientation requirement for Covenant credentialing.

"C.E.O.P. has helped me learn and appreciate the Covenant story.  It has helped me see how my story fits and where my place can be in this denomination/movement.  It has helped me articulate the whys and hows of my decision to become Covenant and has given me such a deeper understanding of these people who are 'Mission Friends'."

Length

Covenant Orientation is designed for completion in two years, although up to six may be used if needed.  The program fee can be paid in installments, lasting no more than six years.

Components of Orientation
Covenant Orientation consists of three major components.

  • Orientation studies are four classes designed to teach Covenant heritage and distinctives.  Two can be taken for three graduate credits each, which are transferable to any ATS accredited school.
  • Covenant Life Experiences seek to immerse the student in the greater life of the Evangelical Covenant Church at various regional and denominational events. There are six total required experiences including attendance at three specific events and three elective experiences.
  • An Advising Relationship helps to establish a collegial relationship typical of Covenant fellowship.

Covenant Orientation and Covenant Credentials
Orientation is a requirement for Covenant licensure, commissioning, ordination and transfer of ordination.  Orientation is simply one step, often the largest step, in the greater credentialing process.  To received a license application or more information regarding credentialing, contact the regional or conference office.

Pastors can be credentialed so they are fully functional while enrolled in the program.

Cost
Covenant Orientation assesses a program fee of $4750.
