What does the non-transferable element of the local ministry license mean?
Each person who holds the LML will annually renew the license as long as
ministry remains in one place. If ever called to another location, the candidate
would need to re-apply through that particular church and conference (even if
remaining in the same conference). The license does not travel with the person.
However, the eight year time frame in which to take the required four courses
does not begin again. Courses must be taken from the time of the first issued
license or the license will no longer be granted.
It is to the candidate's benefit to begin working immediately toward this
goal. These courses are not part of a degree program but meant to enhance the
theological perspective of the license holder. The candidate would also
immediately enroll in the Covenant External Orientation Program, if a year has
not been spent at North Park Theological Seminary.
