France is one of the largest countries in Europe with over 64 million people. Today there is a growing interest in spirituality, faith, and God, even though many in France consider religion irrelevant. Of the nearly 38,000 towns and cities, over 90% are without an evangelical witness. Covenant missionaries are involved in several areas of ministry, working to bridge the gap between the church and general French culture through the arts, discussion groups, friendship evangelism, and developing ministries among the marginalized people in France.
France was one of the first countries to hear the gospel and among the first to promote Christendom. However, today few French people attend church and most consider it irrelevant to their daily lives. France’s rich history has given it an influential role through the centuries in the arts, politics, and industry. Covenant work began in France in 1996, in partnership with national evangelical churches that are part of the International Federation of Free Evangelical Churches (IFFEC).
