Spain

Covenant missionaries are serving in two areas of Spain. In the northwest (La Coruña), the Vida Nueva Covenant Church helps coordinate Alpha for Spain, does church planting in Barcelona and Valencia, serves Latin American immigrants, youth, and offers counseling. In southern Spain, (Málaga), missionaries serve with an existing Protestant church with sports, counseling, and pastoral training for Roma leaders. Please pray for these dynamic and developing ministries.

History

Much history has passed since the apostle Paul expressed his plan to take the gospel to Spain (Romans 15:28). Spain has colorful traditions, customs, and languages influenced by Islam, Catholicism, Judaism, and Protestantism. All these religions have played a role in this country’s history. Although historically considered a Catholic country, church attendance has declined dramatically over the years and a very small percentage have a relationship with Christ. About one percent of the Spanish population is evangelical Christian. Covenant missionary work in Spain began in 1996, through a partnership with the Federation of Independent Evangelical Churches of Spain (FIEIDE).
