Uruguay is one of the newest members of the international Covenant family in Latin America, having been formed by the outreach of missionaries from the Covenant Church of Argentina (IPEA). Regional coordinators are in communication with the national church and encourage the efforts of the church. Congregations from the United States have also connected with these churches through Covenant Merge Ministries and other initiatives. There are now three congregations in Uruguay and new outreach in various locations.
Isaac and Gabriela Coronel started the work in Uruguay in 2005. They were later joined by another Uruguayan pastor and evangelist, Freddy Silvera, in the ministry being carried out in this country. There are extensive ministries in a prison and among Uruguayan gauchos as well as outreach in several communities. Currently, no Covenant missionaries are assigned to Uruguay.
