Resolution Giving Thanks for Freedom
Adopted by the Annual Meeting of The Evangelical
Covenant Church, June, 1999. Presented by the ECC Christian Action
Commission.
WHEREAS, we have experienced the hand of God in our own countries in
providing freedom of worship; and
WHEREAS, we are gathered in Annual Meeting mindful of the recent dramatic
political and social changes that have occurred in the twentieth century,
especially Eastern Europe, including the former Soviet Union; and
WHEREAS, we are all well aware of the sacrifices and suffering of many
who lived under tyrannical rule; and
WHEREAS, it is right and appropriate that we give thanks to Almighty
God for answered prayers; be it therefore
RESOLVED, that we, the members of the Evangelical Covenant Church gathered
in Annual Meeting, pause for a time of prayer, offering our gratitude
to God for the fresh winds of freedom sweeping across our world; and be
it further
RESOLVED, that we celebrate the survival of the Christian Church in
the former Eastern Bloc nations and that we cooperate wherever possible
in advancing the Gospel in this area of our rapidly changing world.
