Quarterly Sunday School Curriculum Options

In 1997 the Evangelical Covenant Church entered into an agreement with Cook Communications which provided for nonexclusive access to local Covenant churches. A subsequent decision was made to enter into a similar agreement with Group Publishing. As a result, you have likely received advertising for their teaching materials. Although we do not endorse any particular curriculum, teaching materials from Cook and Group are among those we recommend.

The following links provide an initial look at several curriculum options that are currently being used by Covenant churches, but you are encouraged to explore publisher web sites for more specific information:

Children's Ministry Curriculum Models - This overview of a few basic curriculum models for ministry with children is summarized online by the Department of Christian Formation.

The Curriculum Evaluation Tool, developed by the Department of Christian Formation, is available to assist you in making a curriculum selection for your church. It may be downloaded by clicking here; a hard copy may also be obtained from the Covenant Resource Center at 1-800-338-IDEA/4332 or resource.center@covchurch.org.

Christian Formation Ministry: Planning Tool for Children (Department of Christian Formation,ECC) – This tool provides usable information on the cognitive, socio/emotional, physical and spiritual development of children, as well as family and multigenerational helps and integrates all this into ministry ideas based on the Christian Formation GROW plan. You can then use the ideas and ministry planning tool to design your own children and family ministries.

Christian Formation Ministry: Planning Tool for Youth (Department of Christian Formation, ECC) – In his book, The Courage to Teach, Parker Palmer says “Teachers possess the power to create conditions that can help students learn a great deal—or keep them from learning much at all. Teaching is the intentional act of creating those conditions.” This Ministry Planning Tool provides youth workers with a variety of models to consider in the planning.

Christian Formation Ministry: Planning Tool for Adult Ministry (Department of Christian Formation, ECC) – This tool provides a holistic approach to provide structure for adult Christian formation in the church. It uses the components of Biblical Studies, Practical Christian Living, and Church-Related Subjects. Each component includes a listing of topics and resources from which a local church might choose for study and application.

El Pacto con Dios: Spanish Curriculum for Children (Department of Christian Formation, ECC) - This is a Bible study plan (in Spanish) for children ages 3-14. It is divided into volumes (according to age) and comes with many wonderful resources for teachers and students.
