Services Pending for Anne Lindquist
FAIRFIELD, CT (February 24, 2006) - Funeral arrangements are pending for
former Covenant Executive Board member Anne Lindquist who died this
morning following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Lindquist, 67, served as a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church
(ECC) Executive Board from 2000 until 2005 and had most recently served
as chair of the Communications Committee of the Executive Board.
She and her husband, Bob (accompanying photo), have long been recognized
for their humanitarian efforts. After returning from a Sankofa Journey,
Lindquist led the Covenant Church of Easton, where she attended, to
participate in a recent Invitation to Racial Righteousness weekend.
Lindquist would make phone calls to help organize the event, despite
being in a hospital bed while receiving a chemotherapy treatment.
Another event planner and close friend, Adrienne Reedy, would ask
Lindquist why she didn't wait to get home from the hospital to make the
calls. "I wanted to get it done today because I know tomorrow I'll
probably have a bad day," Lindquist answered. Lindquist also led the
establishment of a homeless shelter for families and the construction of
a new community library.
"Anne was a gentle and faithful servant of God, totally unselfish and
humble," said ECC President Glenn Palmberg when informed of her passing.
"She had a servant spirit and a heart full of compassion, which led her
to be involved in all kinds of ministries with persons in need. Anne
was a strong person, who continued faithfully fulfilling her
responsibilities as a member of the Executive Board even while she was
living with cancer and its treatments. She had an incredibly strong
faith and relationship with Christ, which became more and more apparent
as she faced the end of life. She was highly regarded and loved by all
who knew her, and she will be deeply missed."
"Anne lived out the active, dependent, trusting and fruit-filled life of
a disciple of Jesus Christ," said Donn Engebretson, ECC executive vice
president who served as Lindquist's pastor at Easton Covenant Church
from 1987-1993. "Anne is the model of the way that the living Christ
can bring great transformation in this world through a person who is
devoted to him. The fruit of Anne's life is so abundant - ministries of
compassion, ministries for youth, ministries of networking God's people
for accomplishing God's heart in this world. We thank God for the ways
in which we have seen Christ alive and active in our world, especially
among the least and the last, through the life of Anne Lindquist."
