Competence:  Remaining sharp in pastoral ministry requires one to be a lifelong learner.  This initiative encourages and resources those in ministry for development in preaching, leading, teaching, and caring.

Learning Seminars

The Evangelical Covenant Church will provide yearly regional seminars on one of the key competencies. The focus of the seminars offered between fall 2008 and spring 2009 will be on caring.  For those who are SPE-eligible and make application, all expenses (including meals, lodging, and materials) will be covered. A travel allowance of up to $500 will be provided for transportation to and from the seminar for those receiving grants.

Other pastors, missionaries, and chaplains are welcome to attend these learning seminars, for a registration fee of $75.

Health & Excellence: The Art & Practice of Pastoral Care

A one-day seminar, presented by John R. Matthews of Midwest Ministry Development Center, which explores healthy ministerial practice, relationships with important groups, and thr 3 foundations for excellence in ministry. This practitioner-based workshop will be filled with rich content and significant interaction.

Personal Learning

Pastors, missionaries and chaplains may design and self-select ways to enhance their growth in the areas of preaching, leading, teaching, and caring. Grants of up to $900 for individuals are available for those who make application in one of these areas of competence.
