Competence: Pastoral Arts & Cohorts

Remaining sharp in pastoral ministry requires one to be a lifelong learner. By providing resources to those in ministry for development in preaching, leading, teaching, and caring we aim to encourage Covenant pastors, missionaries, and chaplains on this journey.
Leadership Cohort (2011-2012)
This nine-month cohort experience will expose participants to a diverse body of material, examining leadership ideas, concepts, theories, and realities through the lens of our Christian faith. Participants in the cohort are invited to a journey that will require a sense of exploration, adventure, discovery, and openness. Through a learning community setting each individual will find the ingredients for his of her own leadership.
This cohort begins on October 3, 2011 and ends May 9, 2012. Along with required reading and reflection assignments, participants will work together via an online classroom setting, in two retreats, and through ministry-based projects. Major topics for the cohort include: The Life of the Leader (fall emphasis), Culture, Change, and Conflict (winter emphasis), and Imagination, Creativity, and Mission (spring emphasis).
There will be two retreats. The first retreat will be held October 17-19 at St. Mary’s of the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois, just north of Chicago. Participants will need to arrive Sunday evening, October 16 and the retreat will conclude at lunch on Wednesday, October 19. The second retreat will be held May 7-9.
