Special Interest Missionary
Women Ministries has the privilege of partnering with Covenant women missionaries. The acronym SIM, stands for Special Interest Missionary.
This program has an interesting history. In the earliest years of Women Ministries, women united as an auxiliary to support different institutions. In 1930 the auxiliary was asked to fully support a woman missionary, Dr. Mildred Nordlund. Though this greatly enlarged its original vision, women accepted the challenging responsibility. Four more missionary women were added in the next few years. However, in 1968, it was decided that support of missionary women should include all of them rather than a select few. The Special Interest Missionary program was created to support all career missionaries equally with an annual gift and other prayerful support, and continues to this day.
The goal of the SIM program is for every Covenant woman missionary – single, married, active, retired, or project missionary – to be partnered with specific Women Ministries affiliates in our local Covenant churches.
This crucial networking between missionary and home support group begins when each Covenant woman missionary is linked with one of the ten Conferences for a three-year period beginning and ending with the Triennial International Women’s Conference. Every three years, SIMs are connected with a different conference. This way the network of relationships grows as each affiliate experiences the breadth of our global mission. Dynamic relationships between our women missionaries and local affiliates are built as they get to know the SIMs and support them. Click here for new SIMS assignments for 2007-2010.
