You know what it’s like to feel the weight of a world that demands you hold it all together. To be broken in ways nobody sees. But what if those cracks are not something we have to hide? What if each one is an invitation? As we learn from our East Asian elders, we discover how the art of kintsugi embodies a theology of healing. When a pot is broken, cracks are mended with gold. The brokenness becomes beautiful. We seek to honor this art form and the cultures that created it, recognizing that the kingdom of God is a multiethnic mosaic, a family on mission together. As we walk with each other, we are blessed to be able to learn from one another and gain a fuller picture of who God is and how God is at work in the world. That spirit of healing undergirds our theme of “Take Heart.” “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33 (TNIV) |
Unite is the triennial youth conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church — a formative gathering that invites students into deeper faith, shared life, and God's work in the world. Rooted in Scripture and shaped by the life of the church, Unite creates space for teaching, prayer, service, and joy. Students are called not only to belong — but to be sent.

A high-energy kickoff for the whole Unite community — music, crowd games, and thousands of students realizing just how big the body of Christ is.
After breakfast in the dining hall, students head to Basecamps — immersive discipleship environments connecting to the week's theme. Smaller than MainStage, with more room for questions and real engagement.
Students gather with their youth group to process what they've heard, share what God is stirring, and pray together. For many, this becomes the heartbeat of the week.
Thirteen meals are included across the week. Dining halls offer a range of options — and the tables around you are full of students from across the US and Canada. Don't just sit with your group.
Outdoor recreation, ropes courses, sports tournaments, creative arts workshops, off-campus adventures, the Hub, seminars, and pickup games. Something for everyone — competitor, learner, or just a good conversation under a tree.
Communal meals are a big deal here. Eat together, meet new people, and get ready for the night ahead.
The whole Unite community gathers for worship, dynamic teaching, and response time. Thousands of voices. Christ-centered. Unforgettable. Space is created after the message for prayer and small group conversation.
When MainStage wraps, the day isn't really over. Back in the residence halls, hallways come alive. Students process what they heard, share stories, and laugh until they cry. Youth leaders — this is often where the most important ministry of the day happens. Be present. Be available. And maybe bring some snacks.

We recognize that the kingdom of God is a multiethnic mosaic, a family on mission together. As we walk with each other, we are blessed to be able to learn from one another, gaining a fuller picture of who God is and how God is at work in the world. As we walk with, and learn from, our Japanese elders, we discover how well the theology undergirding kintsugi captures the spirit of "Take Heart," Unite's theme. We seek to honor this art form and the culture that created it as it frames the theology of our conference. We hope to intentionally model the importance of honoring and learning from one another for our youth at Unite.

Prior to moving to the USA, I was a professor at the National University of Colombia and served with the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students in Colombia for 16 years. Starting in 2001, I served as InterVarsity National Staff in the USA. I have a master’s degree in Christian Ministries, and I serve in Spiritual Direction to those who want to be fully present and available to God and receive His grace over them. My joy is to see professors and college students coming to know Jesus and being transformed into people that bring the good news of righteousness and justice to others.
